A sprint is a fixed window with work in it. Use them when your team works in a cadence and you care about throughput over time.

Running one

1

Create the sprint

From a project’s Sprints tab. Give it a start and end date.
2

Add work

Move tasks into the sprint. A task belongs to one sprint at a time.
3

Start it

An active sprint is what the board and burndown report against.
4

Close it

Closing shows what completed, what didn’t, and what to carry forward.

Velocity depends on status categories

Completion and velocity count by status category, not by name. A custom status meaning “finished” must be given the Done category, or that work will look incomplete in every sprint metric. See Tasks.

Sprints or milestones?

Sprints pace your team. Milestones mark what the client is waiting for. They answer different questions and many teams run both.
