# Client directory

> Client records, what they can see, and how work gets handed over.

<Info>**Startup plan and above.** Off by default — enable under **Settings → Modules**.</Info>

A client record links the projects, contacts, and commercial detail for one
customer, so you can answer "how is this account doing?" rather than only "how
is this project doing?".

## Client records

Create clients under **Clients**, then link projects to them. Once linked you
get rollups across every project for that account — progress, hours, and
profitability together.

## Letting a client see progress

Three options, from least to most access:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Public status link" icon="link">
    A read-only page for one project. No account needed — anyone with the link
    can see progress.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Client portal" icon="globe">
    A client-facing view across their work, with your branding if you have
    white-label on.
  </Card>

  <Card title="External member" icon="user-plus">
    An invited person with access limited to specific projects.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Status reports" icon="envelope">
    Emailed summaries drafted from real activity — see [Reports](/reports).
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Warning>
  A public status link is exactly that — public to anyone holding the URL.
  Prefer the portal or an external member when the work is sensitive.
</Warning>

## Handoff

Closing out finished work with a confirmation record is covered in
[Client handoff](/handoff).

## Invoicing

With Budgets on, the client invoice report pulls unbilled time for a client
over a date range so you can review it before it becomes an invoice, and mark
it billed afterwards.
